Charles Berger is a fine art photographer whose work with the carbon process has revolutionized this nineteenth century photographic printmaking technique. In 1991, Charles founded UltraStable Color Systems, Inc to manufacture four color carbon pigment films. Today, UltraStableColor prints are considered to be the finest and most durable color photographic prints ever made and are in the collection of many of the world’s leading museums and archives. A few fine art printmakers continue to use the process for selected clients and their own personal pleasure.
Charles Berger’s photographs have been exhibited worldwide, including the Smithsonian Institution, and are in the Permanent Photographic Collection of The Museum of Modern Art (New York). His books Image Tibet (1973), Flamenco Gitano (1975), and Legends of the Spirit Trees (2012) use creative photographic imagery to convey ethnographically sophisticated information and are groundbreaking documents of visual anthropology. Brady’s Yacht Club (1999) is a classic black and white photo documentary exploration of his local dive bar.
